Strelitzia Nicolai. Giant Bird of Paradise. The Strelitzia Nicolai is one of the largest Strelitzia species bringing an amazing tropical feel. Huge exotic paddle-like shaped leaves, green/grey in colour and arranged like a fan at the top of the stems give an instant impact and a sense of the jungle.Large eye-catching bird-like white flowers with a bluish/purple 'tongue' appear from purple bracts when the plant is mature enough. Keeping this variety root bound will promote flowering and restrict it's height, so great for conservatories, greenhouses and atriums. Fast growing and easy to grow, but best kept sheltered from frost and strong winds to avoid the leaves shredding.During summer months container can be placed in the middle of a sunny border to give an instant impact and tropical touch
